Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering and the supervision of the Department of Architecture, a scientific field visit was organized to the historic Al-Mustansiriya School on Monday, April 7, 2025. The visit included fourth-year students as part of the Outdoor Spaces Design course, under the supervision of the following faculty members:

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Nisreen Razzaq
  • Lecturer Amal Fadel
  • Assistant Lecturer Zainab Saleh
  • Assistant Lecturer Enas Kazem

The visit aimed to enhance students’ learning experience by exploring the inner courtyard in Islamic architecture and understanding its role in achieving environmental sustainability.

During the visit, the students were accompanied by Mr. Mahdi Ali, Director of the Al-Mustansiriya School, who provided a comprehensive explanation of the building’s history, the design patterns of its inner courtyard, and the architectural transformations it has undergone. His insights enriched the experience and added significant academic value for the students.

This visit is part of a collaborative effort between PhD candidate Amal Fadel and the faculty of the Outdoor Spaces Design course, with the aim of implementing a hands-on educational experience that emphasizes spatial exploration and supports the fourth-year curriculum through engagement with culturally and historically significant sites.

The visit is one of several planned field activities for students of the department, to be gradually implemented in alignment with the academic stage and the department’s approved study program.
