The Engineering College at Baghdad University hosted an awareness workshop organized by the University Follow-up Department in collaboration with the Iraqi National Security Service – Baghdad Directorate, under the slogan “We Are Behind You in the Fight Against the Scourge of Drugs,” on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the Mahdi Hantoush Hall. The workshop featured several specialists from the National Security Service, with the attendance of Prof. Dr. Diaa Jasim, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, as well as faculty members, staff, and students from the college.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness among students about the dangers of addiction and its negative effects on both individuals and society. The session covered several key topics, including the types of drugs and their physical and psychological harms in the short and long term. It also discussed the reasons for drug abuse, such as weak religious convictions, lack of parental supervision, associating with bad company, as well as boredom and a sense of emptiness. Furthermore, the lecturers reviewed the legal aspects related to drugs, based on Articles (27) and (28), along with the legal consequences for drug dealers and users. The workshop also highlighted rehabilitation and treatment centers.

At the end of the workshop, several recommendations were made, including the importance of choosing good company, enhancing the role of the family in proper upbringing and monitoring, and avoiding addiction due to the difficulty of recovery. The workshop also called for contacting the relevant authorities via the number (131) to report any suspicious activities related to drug use or trafficking.
