The study aims to improve the thermal efficiency and energy output of parabolic trough collectors (PTCs) through the use of copper metal foam inserts (MFI). The study used both numerical and experimental methods to study the effects of different metal foam filling ratios (FR) under Iraqi weather conditions. The study compared uniform and stretched MFI along the receiver pipe, including also foamless and fully filled scenarios. Stretch distributions use Blasius and Pohlhausen’s boundary layer concepts to improve thermal performance.

The Dissertation included recommendations including:

  • MFI increased temperature, enhancing daily thermal efficiency and thermal energy output in the PTC.
  • The MFI was most efficient during periods of high solar radiation.
  • found a direct relation between outlet water temp and radiation of solar intensity.

After the scientific discussion by the members of the discussion committee, the researcher received a rating of (Very good).
