Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, and under the supervision of the Continuing Education Unit, the Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, along with the Career Development Unit at Baghdad Engineering, in cooperation with the Directorate of Legal and Administrative Development, organized a workshop titled “Transparency and Integrity in University Education: Foundations for Achieving Sustainable Development.” The workshop was led by Assistant Lecturer Ali Fawzi Rashid and took place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM, in Dr. Mahdi Hantoush Hall. The event was attended by the college’s deputy deans, a number of faculty members, and staff.

The workshop aimed to promote transparency and integrity in higher education, combat academic corruption, achieve academic justice, and support sustainable development while increasing society’s trust in educational institutions.

The workshop included three main topics. The first topic, presented by Dr. Hamza Abdul Samad Abdul Wahid, Director of Legal and Administrative Development, focused on the role of the university professor in achieving sustainable development. Dr. Hamza emphasized the essential role of professors in guiding students toward desired goals and adopting innovative teaching practices.

In the second session, Dr. Israa Abdul Ali Kazem, Rapporteur of the Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, highlighted the importance of promoting transparency and integrity in higher education through legislative reforms and the use of technology to enhance transparency and reduce opportunities for corruption. She stressed the need to establish independent oversight bodies to ensure adherence to ethical standards.

In the third session, Assistant Lecturer Osama Hassan Ali, a member of the Democracy Committee, presented a set of mechanisms to enhance transparency and integrity. He emphasized the necessity of enacting strict laws to penalize academic fraud and administrative corruption, as well as incorporating awareness programs into educational curricula.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the speakers recommended that achieving transparency and integrity in higher education is a fundamental step toward sustainable development. Universities that adopt transparent and honest practices contribute to preparing a new generation of leaders capable of making positive changes in their communities.
