Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, and under the supervision of the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Amjad Al-Bayati, the department organized a welcoming ceremony for first-year students on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Dr. Jamil Al-Malaika Hall.
The event brought together a warm reception for new students and a tribute to retired professors and supporting partners who have contributed significantly to the department’s progress.

The ceremony opened with a welcoming speech delivered by the Dean, who greeted the students and emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work throughout their academic journey.
Following that, the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Amjad Al-Bayati, outlined the department’s academic vision, study plans, and keys to success.

The event also featured advisory remarks from several retired professors, who shared insights from their long professional experience. Additionally, Eng. Abdulhadi Abdul Hassan Al-Badri, representative of the Engineers Syndicate and head of the Civil Engineering Division, provided professional guidance on labor market mechanisms.

Linking theory with practice, Eng. Nabil Al-Saffar, a department alumnus, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, and Director of the Quality Assurance Department, delivered a speech in which he presented real-world professional experiences, labor market requirements, and the latest applications in the field of civil engineering.

Moreover, Mustafa Moataz, the top-ranking student in the Civil Engineering Department, shared his study experience and strategies for time management and achieving academic excellence, serving as a role model for new students.

The ceremony concluded with honoring the retired professors in appreciation of their efforts in educating generations of engineers and leaving behind an enduring scientific and ethical legacy. The Engineers Syndicate representative and the Ministry of Housing representative were also recognized for their active role in supporting the professional field.

This event comes as part of the department’s efforts to strengthen communication between students and faculty members from the very beginning of the academic year, while also acknowledging all those who have contributed to the advancement and development of civil engineering education.
