In a step that reflects strengthened collaboration between the academic and governmental sectors, the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works / Building Research Directorate on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance scientific and professional partnership, develop scientific research and human resources, and support urban development in Iraq.
The agreement was signed during an official visit by Eng. Hussein Faraj Al-Hasnawi, Director General of the Building Research Directorate, who signed the agreement alongside Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, Dean of the College of Engineering, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ziyad Tariq Abdul Ali, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Amjad Hamid Khalil, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, as well as a number of academics, specialists, and staff from the Building Research Directorate.
The agreement includes a comprehensive scientific cooperation program involving the exchange of administrative and scientific expertise, activation of training programs for staff development, organizing joint workshops, seminars, and conferences, in addition to conducting advanced scientific research to enhance innovation and intellectual exchange between both parties.
Eng. Hussein Faraj Al-Hasnawi praised the pioneering role of the College of Engineering in advancing scientific and research standards and opening new horizons for cooperation across various engineering and technical fields. For his part, the Dean affirmed the college’s commitment to strengthening scientific, research, and training collaboration with ministries and governmental institutions in ways that contribute to the development of urban projects and support sustainable development in Iraq.
