The College of Engineering Council held its fifth session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, 21 December 2023, chaired by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hameed, and attended by the assistant deans and heads of scientific departments.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Dean shared his experience during his visit to a number of French universities as part of a delegation from the University of Baghdad headed by the University President, Prof. Dr. Muneer Hameed. The visit included an overview of the educational systems in the French institutions visited, as well as a tour of laboratories in engineering and scientific disciplines. Discussions were also held regarding the possibility of signing memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements between the Universities of Baghdad and Anbar and French universities, particularly in the areas of faculty exchanges, joint supervision, collaborative research, and benefiting from the capabilities of French universities through in-person scientific visits or online platforms.
The Council then proceeded with its agenda, addressing several important matters related to the educational process and the performance of academic and administrative departments, including:
- Discussing the first-semester examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate studies and approving the examination schedules for all scientific departments.
- Ensuring student commitment to ministry regulations during exams and preventing cases of cheating.
- Preparing examination halls with the necessary resources.
- Facilitating procedures to overcome obstacles facing students during examinations.
- Reviewing the implementation of the Bologna Process, preparations for first-semester exams, and orienting first-year students for the 2023–2024 academic year to undertake examinations within the Bologna framework.
- Activating the work of departmental libraries, as the Dean emphasized the need to revitalize library services across all engineering departments and establish mechanisms that facilitate student access, borrowing books, and conducting research.
- Approving a number of academic promotions for College of Engineering faculty members.
- Discussing students whose registration had been suspended and reviewing their potential return to study.
- Addressing several administrative issues within the college, in addition to organizing visits to social institutions.
In conclusion, the Council emphasized the importance of conducting the examination process in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and overcoming all challenges and obstacles facing students
