The College of Engineering Council held its seventh session at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 25 January 2024, chaired by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hameed Abdul-Majeed, and attended by the assistant deans and heads of scientific departments.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Dean welcomed the Council members and praised their outstanding efforts in organizing the first-semester examinations for the academic year 2023–2024. The Council then proceeded with discussing its agenda, addressing several key issues related to the educational process and the performance of academic and administrative units, including:
- Reviewing the conduct of first-semester examinations for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies and identifying obstacles and solutions.
- Emphasizing the importance of organizing awareness workshops and seminars on environmental issues, while adhering to scheduled timelines within the 2023–2024 academic plan, and preparing structured activity plans aimed at developing postgraduate students’ skills.
- Approving postgraduate research titles and joint supervision assignments.
- Discussing the circumstances of some postgraduate students whose situations may require extending the study period.
- Reviewing the results of comprehensive examinations for postgraduate students.
Regarding first-year undergraduate students, the Council highlighted the importance of preparing for first-semester examinations, organizing lists of students eligible for examination, and clearly explaining the Bologna Process mechanisms during the examination to prevent confusion and ensure an optimal exam environment.
- Discussing attendance and absence rates among undergraduate students, identifying obstacles, and proposing appropriate solutions.
- Discussing the possibility of reducing study fees in specific deserving cases.
- Reaffirming the importance of publishing in reputable international scientific databases to ensure academic integrity and enhance the scientific standing of the college and university.
The Council also addressed several administrative matters related to the college.
At the conclusion of the session, the Dean, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hameed, honored Asst. Prof. Dr. Kareem Hassan in appreciation of his significant contributions during his tenure as Administrative Assistant Dean. In the same context, the Dean and Council members congratulated Dr. Kareem Hassan on assuming the position of Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, wishing him continued success in fulfilling his new responsibilities.
