The Department of Petroleum Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field visit on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, for third-year students to Al-Ahdab Oil Field in Wasit Governorate (Kut). The visit aimed to enhance practical training and link academic curricula with real field practices in oil fields.

The visit included three specialized training lectures. It began with an introductory lecture delivered by the Field Authority Manager, Mr. Ali, who provided information about the oil field, daily production capacity, the type of crude oil produced, field characteristics, as well as an overview of the Chinese Waha Company operating the field and the executive staff working there.

The second lecture addressed the topic of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and its importance in oil field management, with a focus on protecting personnel and considering risk management as a top priority in the work environment.

The third lecture was a technical session entitled “Crude Oil Processing,” which covered the stages of crude oil treatment, including water and gas separation processes, leading to the production and transportation of commercial oil. The lecture also provided a detailed explanation of operating mechanisms and technologies used in processing units.

The visit concluded with a field tour to the drilling rig, where students observed drilling engineering operations and on-site workflows, providing them with a practical opportunity to gain direct insight into real-world oil field operations.
