As part of the activities organized by the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad to commemorate the International Day for Tolerance, the Human Rights Unit in the college, in cooperation with the Department of Surveying Engineering, held an awareness workshop today, Sunday, 16 November 2025, titled: “Engineering Builds the Future… and Tolerance Builds the Human Being.” The workshop was attended by second-year students from the Surveying Department and was delivered by the head of the unit, Dr. Israa Abdul Ali.
The workshop aims to promote the values of social peace and enhance students’ awareness, considering them the generation that will lead Iraq’s scientific and humanitarian future.
The workshop highlighted the importance of strengthening the values of tolerance and acceptance of others within the university campus, and the role this plays in developing students’ academic and behavioral skills. Dr. Israa explained that tolerance is not merely an ethical concept but a fundamental professional skill for engineers who work within diverse teams and face challenges that require strong communication and respect for differences.
The workshop also discussed the relationship between engineering as a science that builds the future, and tolerance as a value that builds the human being and shapes personality, emphasizing that a student’s success in professional life depends on integrating scientific knowledge with refined human behavior.
The event included interactive discussions on peaceful conflict resolution within departments and ways to create a positive educational environment that encourages creativity and innovation. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Israa presented recommendations to promote a culture of tolerance within the college through student activities, teamwork, and mutual respect.
