As part of the university’s ongoing initiatives to promote a healthy and safe academic environment, an awareness lecture titled “Methods of Protecting College Students from the Menace of Drugs” was held in the smart hall of the Aeronautical Engineering Department. The session was presented by Assoc. Prof. Heba Muayyad Mohammed, M.Sc. Saba Hafiz Mahdi, and M.Sc. Amna Abbas Kareem.
The lecture addressed the root causes of drug abuse and its far-reaching consequences on health, society, and the economy. The presenters highlighted that where drug use proliferates, it is often accompanied by rising crime rates, social and moral decline, the spread of infectious diseases, and increased violence.
A key message of the lecture was that combating drug abuse is a shared responsibility that involves both community members and state institutions. The speakers underscored the need for collective action, cooperation, and solidarity to confront the risk factors that lead to drug use and addiction.
Moreover, the lecture emphasized the critical role of education and awareness in safeguarding young people from the dangers of substance abuse. By instilling knowledge and preventive values, society can protect its youth from falling into the trap of addiction and ensure their positive development.
This lecture is part of the department’s broader efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and foster a culture of prevention, education, and resilience among university students.
