A delegation from the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, headed by the Department Chair, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Abdul Munim Al-Tamimi, participated in the activities of an urban development workshop focused on the Al-Haidarkhana area within the historic fabric of Al-Rusafa. The workshop was held at Al-Nahrain University and included the presentation and discussion of fourth-year students’ projects.
This participation took place (as part of a specialized architectural workshop) aimed at exploring ways to develop the Al-Haidarkhana area as one of Baghdad’s most prominent historical centers. The workshop featured presentations of student projects as practical educational outputs with potential for real-world application, contributing to their feasibility and relevance in future urban development initiatives. It also provided students with the opportunity to present their design ideas directly to specialized committees and a panel of academic experts, helping to enhance their architectural expression skills and build confidence in their academic work.
The event also included an exhibition of student projects, along with scientific discussion sessions between faculty members and students. These sessions created a constructive and interactive environment for exchanging expertise and evaluating design proposals based on scientific and professional standards.
This participation reflects the Department of Architecture’s commitment at the University of Baghdad to strengthening the integration between academic and practical aspects, linking education with real urban planning and development challenges, and enhancing the quality of architectural education while promoting sustainability concepts in higher education.
