The Mechanical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Qualification and Employment Unit and the Continuing Education Unit, organized a training workshop titled “Soft Skills and Their Importance in Academic Life and the Labor Market.” The workshop was held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, and was delivered by Prof. Fathi Abdul Sahib to fourth-year students.

The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of the importance of soft skills as a fundamental pillar of academic and professional success. It highlighted their crucial role in enabling students to effectively integrate into the workplace after graduation, thereby enhancing both their personal and professional capabilities.

The workshop addressed the concept of soft skills as a set of behavioral traits and abilities that improve effective communication, teamwork, time management, and adaptability to dynamic work environments. It also emphasized the development of problem-solving, critical thinking, and negotiation skills, in addition to the positive use of technology to support academic and professional performance. Furthermore, the session underscored the role of these skills in shaping students’ personalities and preparing them to meet labor market demands.

The workshop concluded by stressing the importance of continuously developing soft skills among students as an essential complement to academic specialization and a key factor in building a successful career path. Participants were encouraged to take advantage of training programs and developmental activities both  (within and outside the university) to enhance their competitiveness and readiness for the evolving job market.
