The College of Engineering Council held its tenth session at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 17 May 2023, chaired by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Saba Jabbar Nima, and attended by the assistant deans and heads of scientific departments. At the beginning of the session, the Dean emphasized the implementation of the Bologna Process and the workshops organized by the Ministry, as well as the college’s preparations for holding the Engineering College Conference and competing with other engineering colleges in Iraqi universities. She also highlighted efforts to create opportunities to attract both Iraqi and international researchers. The Council additionally discussed the mechanisms for managing final examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The Dean extended her appreciation to the department heads for their efforts in organizing events and celebrations within the college departments and for their participation in the conferences held by Baghdad Municipality and the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad. The meeting also included a discussion on involving newly appointed lecturers and employees in the workshops and seminars held at the university.
Instructions and guidelines from the University Council were conveyed to the heads of scientific departments regarding electronic grading and the tools, devices, and resources required for its implementation. The Council also discussed the need to change the name of the Engineering Journal due to its similarity with the names of other Arab and international journals.
The Dean expressed her gratitude and praise for the various activities and competitions organized by the engineering departments, including the efforts made in preparing for the Mathematics Competition, which witnessed participation from first- and second-year students in all scientific departments of the college, in addition to students from Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering and the College of Engineering at Al-Nahrain University. The College of Engineering achieved advanced rankings in the competition.
She also commended the efforts of the Student Activities Unit for the volleyball team’s victory over the College of Fine Arts team in the final match of the University of Baghdad Championship. Additionally, she lauded the Department of Electrical Engineering for organizing a charity bazaar with the participation of students and faculty members, where inventions, robots, and automated devices were showcased.
The Council called for the preparation of examination halls from administrative and technical aspects, including maintenance and necessary readiness. The Dean instructed department heads to ensure safety and security by efficiently using the available resources.
The session concluded with a notable participation from the students of the Department of Civil Engineering, where a team of first-year students delivered a distinguished seminar in English on earthquakes and structural methods for addressing their impact on buildings.
