Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majid, the Department of Chemical Engineering, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Engineering, held a scientific workshop titled: “The Chemical Engineer: Leading Process Safety in Chemical Industries” on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Dr. Mahmoud Omar Hall in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role of the chemical engineer in establishing process safety concepts within industrial facilities, particularly in chemical industries that require a high commitment to professional standards and preventive measures to mitigate risks and protect workers and facilities.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Thabet Abdul and Assistant Lecturer Hind Hassan Abdul-Hussein, who addressed several important topics, including process safety concepts, the responsibilities of chemical engineers in risk management, the importance of conscious leadership in implementing safety systems, as well as presenting practical models that contribute to enhancing safety culture in industrial work environments. The workshop witnessed significant interaction from faculty members and students of the department, who participated in discussions and scientific exchanges, enriching the content of the workshop and achieving its educational and awareness objectives.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers emphasized the College of Engineering’s commitment to continue organizing specialized workshops and scientific activities that contribute to enhancing the competencies of students and faculty members, and developing their professional skills according to the latest scientific and practical standards. They also stressed the importance of instilling a culture of process safety in industrial sectors and the role of chemical engineers in leading safe and responsible professional practices that meet labor market requirements and contribute to sustainable development and community service.
