The Department of Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, hosted a scientific seminar titled “The Iraqi–Chinese Joint Laboratory for Smart Microgrids and Energy Storage” on Wednesday, 29 October 2025. The seminar was presented by the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Firas Mohammed Tuaymeh.
The seminar discussed the importance of establishing the joint laboratory between Iraq and China and its role in advancing research on renewable energy and sustainable smart grid systems, thereby strengthening academic and scientific collaboration between the two countries.
During the presentation, Prof. Dr. Tuaymeh reviewed the goals and future plans of the laboratory, which focus on promoting collaborative research in smart microgrid technologies, integrating renewable energy sources, and developing advanced energy storage solutions. He emphasized that this initiative represents a strategic step toward supporting the transformation of Iraq’s energy sector by combining local expertise with modern Chinese technologies.
He also noted that the joint research activities, training programs, and innovation initiatives to be adopted by the laboratory will contribute to building a strong scientific foundation for developing clean and efficient energy solutions that support sustainable development in Iraq.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, most notably enhancing academic exchange between Iraqi and Chinese universities, activating joint research projects, training students, and facilitating technology transfer to advance sustainable energy development in Iraq.
This joint laboratory is expected to serve as a significant milestone in international cooperation toward developing sustainable energy technologies and supporting scientific and economic progress between the two nations.
