The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “Raising Social Awareness Among Graduate Students and Protecting Them from the Dangers of Drugs.” This event took place within the framework of the department’s scientific activities and was conducted in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit and the Continuing Education Unit.
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Ali Saber, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, the workshop was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the department’s discussion hall, attended by several faculty members and graduate students.
The workshop featured a comprehensive presentation by Assistant Professor Hiba Mu’ayyad Muhammad, Director of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, who provided in-depth information about the dangers of drugs to individuals and society, the various types of drugs, and their methods of spread. The primary goal was to educate students and the community about the severe impacts of drug abuse.
The workshop concluded with several key recommendations:
1. Emphasizing the importance of incorporating educational awareness into curricula to lay a solid foundation of knowledge for future generations.
2. Utilizing various media outlets to educate community members about the harms of drug abuse.
3. Involving respected individuals and community figures in awareness and educational initiatives against drug abuse.
4. Highlighting the family’s role in fostering economic, social, and health conditions that promote sound values and ethics, protecting children from drug abuse.
