The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Baghdad organized an in-person workshop titled “Ethical Decision Making” on May 23, 2024, in the Dr. Munther Al-Droubi Hall. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Abdulrasool and was sponsored by the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Ali. The event was attended by several faculty members and staff from the department.
The workshop aimed to exchange views on ethics in the educational and research environment within the engineering field. It included several key topics, such as understanding the concept of ethics within educational and research institutions, analyzing ethical scenarios, and making informed decisions following the steps of ethical decision-making.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations to enhance the steps of ethical decision-making according to global and engineering charters. The main recommendations included:
1. Commitment to ethical values and principles.
2. Careful analysis of options.
3. Interactive and group discussions.
4. Practicing decision-making based on ethical values.
5. Continuous guidance and follow-up.
6. Enhancing critical thinking.
7. Encouraging teamwork to find creative solutions.
This workshop is part of the scientific activities organized by the Mechanical Engineering Department to enhance knowledge and develop ethical skills in the field of engineering education and research.
