The Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Engineering, hosted a workshop on the theory of spatial composition titled “Space Syntax.” Presented by Associate Professors Sally Fakhri Khalaf and Dhargham Mazhar Kareem, alongside Engineer Tawfiq Najah, the workshop took place on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Geared towards postgraduate and master’s students, the workshop provided a unique opportunity to delve into the theory of Space Syntax and its practical applications. Using tools such as “depthmap” and “ArcGIS,” participants learned to analyze and understand spatial relationships for urban planning purposes.
The primary goal of the workshop was to enrich students’ knowledge and equip them with the skills needed to apply Space Syntax theory effectively in their future research and architectural projects. By exploring this innovative approach to spatial design, students were empowered to enhance their understanding and contribute meaningfully to the field of urban planning and design.
