A public discussion was held for the master’s student (Maryam Mohammad Khaleel) from the Department of Civil Engineering on her thesis entitled “Interoperability of Building Information Modeling in Iraqi Construction Projects” on Sunday 29/10/2023 in Dr. Khaled Shaiker Hall.
The discussion committee consisted of distinguished members:
- Dr. Kadhim R. Erzaij…..(Chairman)
- Dr. Hatem A. Rasheed…..(Member)
- Lecturer Dr. Ibrahim F. Muhsin…..(Member)
- Lecturer Dr. Mustafa Halil ……(Supervisor)
Where the thesis was intended as following:
- To anticipate how the construction industry in Iraq might accept and perceive the actual usage of BIM technology in FM.
- To identify the specific capabilities and functions of Building Information Modeling (BIM) employed during the operation and maintenance stage, which have the potential to address the fundamental causes of interoperability challenges arising from the inadequacy of exchanged data and the improper utilization of outdated documentation.
Accordingly, the thesis came out with a set of recommendations, including:
- Interest in implementing principles of project management in engineering and working to develop them to keep up to data the building projects information.
- The necessity of involvement facility manager in the early stages to participate them clients’/end-users’ in decision-making with respect of specified management of the building.
Activate the new technology BIM in Iraqi construction sector and develop tracking system between clients’/end-users’ by applying documentation system COBie extension for Revit.
After the scientific discussion by the members of the discussion committee, the researcher received a rating of (excellence)
