Graduate students from the Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad participated in an online workshop titled ” Urban and Architecture : Heritage in Danger “ on its first day, November 1, 2023, conducted yesterday. This workshop is part of the #Taziz_Partnership – Short Measures 2023 program, a collaboration between six universities: #BrandenburgUniversity of Technology in Germany, Cairo University and Alexandria University in Egypt, University of Baghdad, University of Kurdistan – Erbil in Iraq, and Germa Jordanian University in Jordan.
The workshop focused on issues related to architectural and urban heritage at risk.
The academic research team from the Department of Architecture included a group of Master’s students in their second research year: Mees Youssef, Shahd Khaled, Hala Abduljabbar, Hamam Muayad, and Ali Qadouri, along with Ph.D. students represented by the lecturer Amal F. Khanjar .
Three specialized lectures were presented on dealing with architectural and urban heritage and various strategies.
The first lecture was delivered by Professor Christoph Wessling from Brandenburg University of Technology titled ” Urban and Architectural Heritage in Danger

The third lecture by Dr. Nihal AbdelGawwad and Dr. Nada Hazem from Cairo University was titled ” AlDarb AlAhma Area Introduction : Brief History Regeneration&Redevelopment-Projects .”
The last part of the workshop included presentations of case studies by the research groups of the participating students. Our research team focused on the historical Karkh district Shawaka as a case study.
