The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Iraqi Drilling Company, organized a scientific trip for students of the fourth stage of the Department of Petroleum Engineering to the oil fields in Basra Governorate for a week from Saturday 29/4/2023 until Friday 5/5/2023. The trip was a resounding success in all respects and the company’s officials praised the good commitment and behavior of our dear students. The students also received scientific and practical benefit during an intensive program to visit important sites in the oil fields. They were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Faleh Hassan Mohammed Al-Mahdawi and Dr. Ruwaida Qaiser Abdul Majeed. The number of students participating in the trip is 43 students.
The first day: A visit to the rehabilitation site of the towers of the Iraqi Drilling Company and a visit to the largest drilling tower in Iraq IDC57 with horsepower HP 3000 and capable of drilling up to 9 km.
Second day: Visit to IDC21 Drill Tower in Tuba Oil Field: Students completed what they learned on the first day through a detailed explanation of the performance of the drilling tower operating in this field, where the students learned about the performance of the breakout arresters and the CUPE system responsible for controlling the outbreak BOP Day Three: Visit to IDC40 Reclamation Tower: In this tower there was an acidification process using KCl acid and the use of Coil tubing technology to improve the production performance of a pre-drilled well. The program of the Third day included a scientific and entertaining trip to the Cultural Museum located in the presidential palaces in Basra province.
The fourth day: A visit to the workshops of the Iraqi Drilling Company in the Rumaila oil field, which is one of the largest fields in the world The program of the visit included identifying the exact parts of the equipment used on the drilling tower platform and the supporting systems (electric power system, drilling mud pump system, fishing equipment, breakout arresters, as well as the diesel unit) The company’s staff enriched the students with accurate information about the work, components and methods of maintaining all the equipment that the students saw during the visit. The students showed great interaction with the trip program specified by the Iraqi Drilling Company by asking questions and entering into an extensive discussion with the company’s staff to obtain the smallest details. The company’s cadres have shown great cooperation and an unparalleled spirit of cooperation in order to provide information in the best and easiest way.
The fifth day: A visit to the headquarters of the Iraqi Drilling Company and taking a safety course from the Deputy Director of Safety in the company, Mr. Ahmed Younis, approved by one of the international companies, through which the students will receive a certificate of participation. In conclusion, Prof. Faleh Al-Mahdawi delivered a speech in which he expressed the desired benefit of this scientific trip and the benefit it will provide to the participating students by linking what they learned on the study benches with what.

The representative of the students of the Petroleum Engineering Department, batch 64, Muhammad Ali Diaa, expressed praise and thanks to the cadres of the Iraqi Drilling Company, the head of the department and the students who sought to complete this scientific trip successfully, which enriched the students and added to them the practical information necessary to combine the theoretical side and the field side to complete the requirements of their academic studies and its money from a major role in understanding their specialization and work in the fields in the future.
