Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Ghassan Hameed Abdul Majeed, and the supervision of the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Rasha Habib Salman, the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Baghdad hosted a specialized scientific seminar in collaboration with the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate. This event comes (as part of ongoing efforts) to strengthen the practical aspect of education and bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world expertise.
The seminar featured Engineer Ali Nihad Shiaa from the Engineers Syndicate, who delivered a workshop titled “Natural Gas Compression Processes” on Monday, April 6, 2026, in the smart hall of the Chemical Engineering Department.
The seminar aimed to enhance participants’ applied understanding and equip them with fundamental concepts related to natural gas behavior, as well as the selection and operation of compressors in various industrial environments. This contributes to developing their technical skills and improving professional competence.
The lecture covered several scientific and practical topics, including the physical properties of natural gas, engineering principles of compression processes, the impact of pressure and temperature on operational efficiency, and an overview of different types of gas compressors and their working principles.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Engineer Ali Shiaa emphasized the importance of organizing such scientific activities, as they strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and professional bodies, and help develop students’ and staff members’ skills in line with labor market demands in the engineering field.
