The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad received, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, a ministerial committee assigned to study the feasibility of establishing a PhD program in Electronics and Communications Engineering. This initiative comes  the college’s efforts to develop its graduate programs and strengthen its academic progress.

The committee was welcomed by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, accompanied by the Head of the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering, Dr. Aqeel Naama Zayan. The visiting committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Dhirgham Kamal Naji and included Assistant Professors Dr. Ali Najdi Abdullah, Dr. Muhannad Yousif Mohsen, and Dr. Amer Aboud Asman.

The visit included a field tour of the department, during which the committee reviewed the infrastructure and scientific laboratories, as well as the adopted curricula. Discussions focused on their alignment with the requirements for launching the proposed program, in addition to examining research plans and academic programs aimed at supporting graduate studies and enhancing the quality of research outputs in this field.

For his part, the Dean emphasized the college’s commitment to expanding its academic offerings, particularly in graduate studies. He noted that establishing a PhD program represents a strategic step toward building an advanced scientific base that meets development needs and labor market demands in the field of electronics and communications engineering.
