The Department of Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, held the oral comprehensive examination for PhD candidate Rushd Hameed Majeed on Monday, February 9, 2026, in the department’s meeting hall.

This step comes as part of the requirements for obtaining a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering / Control and Computers. The candidate’s dissertation addresses a topic aligned with recent technological advancements, entitled:
“An AI-Driven Intelligent Routing Framework for Faster Energy Response in a Proposed Smart Electrical Grid.”

The research is supervised by the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Professor Dr. Firas Mohammed Tuaima, and Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Tawfiq.

The examination committee consisted of professors from the University of Baghdad and University of Technology, ensuring the highest standards of academic rigor in evaluating research proposals and the scientific competence of postgraduate students.

The study aims to bridge the research gap in integrating solar energy forecasting with communication efficiency in smart grids. It proposes a framework based on deep learning techniques such as LSTM and Transformer models for energy prediction, integrated with an intelligent routing system built on Software-Defined Networking (SDN) to enhance response speed and energy efficiency.
