Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, the University Psychological Counseling Unit and the Continuing Education Unit in the Environmental Engineering Department, in cooperation with the Psychological Research Center at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, organized a scientific seminar titled:
“Immoral and Indecent Content on Social Media: A Threat to Values and Society.”
The event was held in the Environmental Engineering Department’s discussion hall on Monday, November 24, 2025.
The seminar was attended by the Head of the Environmental Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Iyad Abdul Hamza Faisal, along with a number of faculty members and students. Assistant Professor Hiba Muaid Mohammed, Director of the Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Engineering, participated in the seminar and highlighted the behavioral and cognitive effects of immoral content within the digital environment, as part of the unit’s efforts to promote community awareness and protect students from the risks that may arise in cyberspace.
The seminar addressed the nature of immoral content on social media, its forms, and its impact on moral and value systems. It also discussed methods of prevention, awareness, and promoting safe digital behavior among university youth.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants emphasized a set of recommendations, including the need for joint academic and community efforts to limit immoral content, enhance digital awareness among university students, and strengthen the role of families and educational institutions in protecting public values. The recommendations also highlighted the importance of psychological counseling in educating and reducing the negative behavioral and cognitive effects resulting from the uncontrolled use of social media.
