Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majid, and under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, Prof. Zyar Tariq Abdul Ali, the Human Rights Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled “Ending Violence Against Women”, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed on November 25.

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Israa Abdul Ali, Director of the Human Rights Unit, and targeted second-year students in the Department of Surveying Engineering. It addressed several key themes focusing on promoting women’s dignity and ensuring their rights within a safe university environment, in addition to reinforcing the values of respect and equality and spreading the principles of nonviolence within the family and society, with the aim of building a conscious generation capable of rejecting violence and discrimination.

The lecture included interactive discussions in which students shared their opinions and suggestions on reducing gender-based violence, emphasizing the importance of their role in raising awareness both inside and outside the university.

At the end of the event, Dr. Israa Abdul Ali recommended intensifying awareness programs on women’s rights within the university, promoting a culture of reporting any abusive practices, expanding cooperation among academic units to organize continuous activities that reinforce the values of equality and respect, and providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

This workshop comes as part of a series of activities organized by the College of Engineering aimed at promoting human rights principles and fostering a culture of civil peace within the university campus.
