Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid, and the supervision of the Head of the Department of Water Resources Engineering, Prof. Dr. Basim Shaba Abdul, the Department of Water Resources Engineering, in collaboration with the Units of Psychological Guidance and Counseling and Continuing Education, organized a workshop titled “Developing Teamwork Skills Among University Students to Enhance Team Spirit and Cooperation” on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Tigris Hall in the department. The workshop was delivered by a distinguished group of faculty members and attended by several professors and students of the college.

The workshop aimed to develop students’ teamwork skills and foster a spirit of cooperation and coordination among them. It provided effective methods for communication and positive interaction, which contribute to enhancing their ability to work within academic and professional teams, thereby enabling them to achieve common goals efficiently in their future work environments. The workshop focused on the importance of cooperation between individuals in creating a positive environment that supports mutual respect and effective communication.

The workshop covered several aspects. Dr. Alaa Hassan Nima discussed the role of teamwork in enhancing cooperation and achieving common goals. Assistant Lecturer Alaa Abdul Hadi Abbas presented the concept of teamwork and its impact on improving performance within academic and professional teams. Meanwhile, Assistant Lecturer Hussein Fadel Hussein explained the types of communication within teams and how to handle different personality types. Assistant Lecturer Fatima Saadoun addressed the essential skills for successful teamwork, such as problem-solving, decision-making, and effective cooperation.

At the end of the workshop, the speakers recommended enhancing the culture of cooperation among students and encouraging them to work with a team spirit within the university environment. They also emphasized the importance of developing effective communication skills to ensure positive interaction between team members. Additionally, they stressed the need to train students on problem-solving mechanisms and group decision-making, as well as instilling mutual respect to create a positive team environment. The speakers also highlighted the importance of preparing students for the labor market by equipping them with the skills to work efficiently within professional teams. They called for continuous workshops and training programs to further enhance their teamwork and cooperation skills in both academic and professional settings.
