Following the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Department of Water Resources Engineering organized a scientific field visit for second-year students. The visit, supervised by Professor Dr. Basim Shaba Abed, aimed to provide students with hands-on experience at Al-Wahda Water Project located in the Karrada region, south of Baghdad. This project, crucial for water supply in the area, was established in two phases the first line in 1951 and the second in 1958. Over the years, the project underwent rehabilitation and expansion work, with the final phase completed in 2006. Al-Wahda Water Project supplies water to various areas including shops 904, 906, 908, 910, 929, 931, and serves a significant portion of Karada, including inside outside, Arasat, and Jadriya, as well as street areas 52, 62, and 42 The students were accompanied by several teaching staff and engineers. The purpose of the visit was to help the students better understand the structural details of the project and to bridge the gap between theory and practical application in water quality and treatment. The students and staff members were given a tour of the project and learned about the various stages of water filtration. The project's engineering staff provided a comprehensive explanation of how water is filtered from the Tigris River to ultimately supply clean water to the surrounding areas. At the conclusion of the visit, the teaching staff and students expressed their gratitude to the engineers for their detailed explanation and valuable insights into the project.
