Heat Transfer Laboratory
It contains a number of laboratory devices that are used to conduct experiments related to thermal sciences covered in mechanical engineering study. Many experiments and simulation models of thermal engineering are studied in this Lab. to fulfill the main requirements of undergraduate study in mechanical engineering. The Lab. consists of Thermodynamic Lab, heat transfer Lab., internal combustion engines Lab. and power plants Lab. The Lab. Serve both undergraduate students and postgraduate students who are involved in thermo-fluid specialist study in mechanical engineering department.
Fluids Laboratory
Fluids laboratory is used by the second and third classes to get them familiar with the basics of fluids mechanics and some of its application. In addition to the centrifugal fans, centrifugal pumps and wind tunnel, there are 9 devices in this laboratory. In this laboratory, many experimental test is done so as dynamics similarity, the impact in water jet, forced vorticity test, friction in pipes, the stability of the bouncy bodies, induction flow which used to study the process of mixing rough jet with air flow and founding the pressure distribution along the channel and founding the flow rate for the secondary flow, in addition to founding the friction factor and study the effect of the distance between the jet and the channel on the velocity difference and pressure distribution around circular bodies test.
Air Conditioning Laboratory
Air conditioning laboratory is used by the fourth class to describe the principles of air conditioning and cooling, in addition to the heat pump and its application. There are 7 devices in this laboratory which are used to do the following tests: study the wet air properties and saturation pressure and temperature for the refrigerant, study the sensible heating and cooling process on the wet air, calculation the coefficient of performance of typical compression refrigeration cycle (housing refrigerator) and evaluation the performance of the compression refrigeration cycle by using expansion valve.
Strength of Materials Laboratory
Strength of materials laboratory is used by the second and third classes to study the mechanical properties of materials and how can determine it. It is used to conduct different tests on the material models in this laboratory. Also, the students from other departments can use this laboratory so as the students of electrical, petrol and chemical engineering departments. There are 10 devices such as tensile test device, torsion test device, impact test device, hardness test device (Rockwell), hardness test device (Brinel), hardness test device (Brooks), metals creeping test device, fatigue test device, bending test device, screws test device, shear test device and other devices.
Theory of Machines Laboratory
Theory of machines is used by the second class to study the principle of some machines. There are 4 devices which are used to conduct the dynamics moving tests such as measuring the speed and acceleration for internal combustion engines, also the rotating moment test for connecting rod. There are friction test such as power measurement and measuring the resulted tension from moving transform by belts and measuring the required friction force to stop the cylinders. Also, there are tests for measuring the moment and transforming power by gears and tests for measuring static and dynamics equilibrium.
Control Laboratory
It is one of the applied mechanics laboratories which is used by the fourth class to study the control principles of machines and devices. Control laboratory contains control self-feed devices (open and closed loop control). Also, the computer is used in the control tests.
Vibrations Laboratory
In this laboratory, the measuring of the external vibration which affects the moving body and evaluating the value of the mechanical stresses which is resulted from this vibration then compared it with the natural frequency of body. It is used to measure the free and forced vibrations which are changed with the changing of the effected forces and the type of body fixing. The frequencies can be measured by different devices such as the shaker and measure the acceleration and plotting the wave’s shape by waves plotting device and measure the magnitude of rigidity for all types of beams which are used in machine structure design.
Metallurgy Laboratory
This laboratory is used by the second-class students to get them familiar with the mechanical properties of the materials. Microscopic tests for samples, microscopic tests for hardness and heat treatments can be doing in this laboratory. It can be benefiting from some of the available devices in the laboratory after rehabilitating it and doing the impact, creeping, hardness
Computer Laboratory
Computer lab is used by the under graduate students in the department in addition to the post graduate students. The lab is used to get the students familiar with the computer hardware and also to improve the skills of the students in using some standard software. The lab mainly concentrates on computer operating software and others related to design and engineering drawings in addition to use it by the post graduate students to execute some programming related to theoretical field of their researches. The lab teaches Basic language, Fortran language, Math CAD language and Ansys.
Measurements Laboratory
The lab is used by 1st and 3rd class students to get them familiar with measurement devices and methodologies. In this lab the students got trained on the engineering dimensional measurement which has relation with different machining and production operations. The following measurements are performed in the lab: measurements using vernia, measurements using micrometer, limitation test, angles and cam measurements.
Interface and Electrical Engineering Laboratory
The lab is erected recently in mechanical engineering department to fulfill the requirements of the practical sector related to electrical principles subject studied by 1st class students and principles of electrical machines subject studied by 3rd class students. List of required equipment and devices is prepared to ensure the requirements of the experiments which will be conducted by the students of both 1st and 3rd class.
Mechanical Workshop
The mechanical workshop contains a lot of devices and equipment, and it includes many workshops: such as turning, milling, welding, casting, sharpening, blacksmithing, carpentry, and others. The workshop is used to train students of all departments of the College of Engineering, in addition to using it to complete graduation projects and graduate students projects, as well as to serve various state ministries and institutions and the private sector also.
