The Industrial Advisory Council of the Industrial Research and Development Authority held its regular meeting for the academic year 2024-2025 on Monday morning, February 24, 2025, at the Department of Chemical Engineering. The meeting was attended by council members, including Dr. Abdullah Adnan and Dr. Muhammad Jaber from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals – Industrial Research and Development Authority, as well as from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Baghdad: the head of the department, Associate Professor Rasha Habib Salman, Professor Basma Abbas Abdul Majid, and Professor Ammar Saleh Abbas.
During the meeting, several important points concerning cooperation between the authority and the department were discussed, including research projects, training programs, and curriculum development to serve the job market.
The meeting resulted in a comprehensive discussion of various aspects related to the field of chemical engineering, with a focus on industrial needs and job market requirements. Contemporary industrial trends were analyzed, and modern techniques and innovations in chemical processes were reviewed, along with how to incorporate them into educational curricula. The discussion also addressed the industry’s needs for graduates and proposed ways to develop academic programs to align with these requirements.
Additionally, during the visit, an overview of the current state of laboratories for both graduate and undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering was provided, and some suggestions were made on how to enhance them to better serve students and researchers. The members also participated in attending and discussing a number of research projects, highlighting the role of chemical engineering in supporting national sustainability goals while discussing the challenges facing the industry and proposing innovative solutions offered by the department to address them.
