Engineer Hind Hussein Ahmed, a graduate of the Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad, has been awarded the title of “Best Graduation Project by an Iraqi Student” as part of the Tamayouz International Graduation Projects Award 2024. Her project received an honorary distinction, ranking among the top 10 graduation projects worldwide.

The winning project, titled “The Forgotten Memory,” was supervised by Dr. Rand Hazem Aga and Dr. Ahmed Natiq Al-Shamma. It is a shining example of architectural ingenuity in addressing the psychological and social challenges caused by traumatic societal events. The project aims to preserve historical memory for future generations and honor the victims of tragedies. Its design includes a “Hall of Tragedy” that depicts the events to foster empathy and understanding, and a “Hall of Hope” that symbolizes resilience and healing.

The Tamayouz Award is recognized as one of the most prestigious architectural competitions worldwide. It is judged by an international panel of experts in design and urban planning. This year’s competition featured 587 projects from 125 universities in 37 countries, celebrating excellence in architectural design and encouraging innovative solutions to global and local challenges. Hind’s project impressed the global jury with its creative architectural solutions, demonstrating the power of architecture to make a positive social impact.
