The researcher, Professor Dr. Abdullah Daye, from the College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Baghdad, received the Edson Award for Inventions and the Golden Scientific Creativity Medal for his innovative method of development an electric elevator that adopts tanks and weights.
This was achieved through his participation in the third international exhibition for inventions and innovations held in the Kurdistan region of Iraq at the University of Zakho, College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Light Harvest Organization for Educational Development from December 4-6, 2024. This invention presented a new idea for the electric elevator by eliminating the main electric motor through the use of compressors, compressed air tanks, and flexible plastic pipes. When the cabin needs to ascend or descend, the compressors pump air into or out of the tanks, making the cabin heavier or lighter than the balance load. Due to the force of gravity, the balance load descends, causing the cabin to rise, or vice versa. Additionally, it is possible to replace the tank in forming the balance load and the air compressor with a weight or load of about 5 to 10% of the cabin’s weight.
