Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdel Majeed, and the supervision of the Head of the Environmental Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Ayad Abdel Hamza Faisal, the Environmental Engineering Department held a workshop entitled:
“Renewable energy, its types, sources and role in the future”
As part of the scientific activities of the Environmental Engineering Department, a workshop was delivered by Assist.Dr. Hadeel Mohammed Hussien, on Wenesday, 4/12/2024, in the discussion room in the Environmental Engineering Department, in the presence of a number of college professors, within the activities of Global Leadership Week. The workshop addressed the most recent issue of renewable or clean energy which is created from continuously renewable and sustainable sources such as solar energy and wind energy, as opposed to traditional techniques such as fossil fuels and gas, which affect the environment. It also stated that it is feasible to integrate several clean environmental sources, such as wind and solar energy.
The aim of the workshop was to gain knowledge about different forms of energy, their sources, and their roles, as well as to provide an alternative to traditional methods that harm the environment, as renewable energy is environmentally friendly. Finally, the workshop came up with a set of recommendations, including:
– The application of solar energy, represented by solar panels, to absorb and transform the energy released by sunshine into heat, electricity, or hot water. Solar energy may remove many costs in the long run while lowering energy bills in the short term.
– Wind energy is a new method to create jobs because wind turbines require maintenance to operate.
– Using methane gas produced by the decomposition of organic matter in ponds or even landfills to generate electricity.
