The College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, witnessed the public discussion of the master’s student Hussein Raheem Hassoun in the Department of Civil Engineering about her thesis entitled Laboratory simulation of field compaction methods of roller compacted concrete pavement on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Dr. Khaled Shaker Hall, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zena .K. Abbas
The research aims to produce roller compacted concrete using a set of laboratory methods and compare them with the field compaction process for this concrete to know which results are closer to field and with different curing methods
The results showed that the compaction process using the vibrating hammer VH gives a higher strength than the strength resulting from the field compaction process. On the contrary, the compaction process using the vibrating table VT showed much lower results when compared to the results of the field compaction process, while the use of a manufactured roller MMR , which was adopted by previous researchers and modified in this work, showed strength results close to the strength obtained in the field compaction process. The results also showed strength results for the anti-evaporation material Sika Antisol higher than the rest of the curing methods that included spraying with water as well as the water immersion process for laboratory samples
Accordingly, the research came out with a set of recommendations, including making some modifications to the laboratory methods targeted in this research, which moved away from the field compaction process and using more for modified manufactured roller, as well as studying the effect of different curing methods
After the scientific discussion by the respected members of the discussion committee, listening to the researcher’s defense and evaluating the thesis, the researcher obtained a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering/Roads and Transportation.
