The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public discussion for the master’s student Sabrin Mohammed Munim from the Department of Architecture. The discussion was about her thesis titled “Spatial Contractual Connectivity in Living Healthy Environments” on 16/9/2024 in the Mohammed Makiya Hall, supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Rathi Abbas.
The thesis aimed to establish mechanisms for creating healthy and vibrant public spaces. It also included establishing a correlation between healthy and vibrant environments.
The thesis concluded with several recommendations, including:
The study showed a strong correlation between healthy and vibrant elements and developed a checklist to measure vitality. Therefore, the research recommends adopting this matrix in urban projects to ensure effectiveness and spatial sustainability.
The research recommends paying attention to public space development projects that align with the human scale by focusing on environmental aspects perceived by the users.
The research advises working on developing the basic infrastructure of public spaces according to concepts of water and waste recycling, whether from users or commercial outlets.
The research adopted spatial characteristics to ensure healthy behavior among individuals. Therefore, it recommends conducting complementary studies with other disciplines, including medical professionals, to measure urban space quality in relation to physiological and psychological health, and complementary studies with environmental psychology on the impact of healthy space quality on human health in the future.
After the scientific discussion by the esteemed members of the discussion committee and hearing the defense of the researcher and evaluating the thesis/dissertation, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree in Architecture.
