The Department of Water Resources Engineering participated in the activities of the renewable energies workshop held by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), represented by the head of the Department, Professor Dr. Bassem Shaba Abed, where the IRENA international agency aims to strengthen the role of renewable energies in the participating countries to become the main driving force in promoting the transition to the use of renewable energy on a global scale: Acting as the global voice of renewable energies, IRENA provides advice and support to both developed industrialized countries and to developing countries practical advice, helping them to improve regulatory frameworks, build capacity and facilitate access to all relevant information including reliable data on renewable energy potential, best practices, effective financial mechanisms and technological expertise. IRENA also provides advice and support to governments on the adoption of renewable energy policy.
The workshop also aims at consultation between national stakeholders and international organizations to identify issues that restrict energy transition efforts and the deployment of renewable energy, identify opportunities to address these issues and put forward action plans for implementation. The results of the discussions will provide substantive input for the preparation of the agency’s report.
