The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad witnessed the public discussion of doctoral student Alaa Shihan Awad in the Department of Petroleum Engineering on his thesis titled (Investigating the Reasons of Bubble Point Discrepancy and Reservoir Pressure Decline for Mishrif Reservoir / Garraf Oil Field) on Monday, April 22, 2024, in the graduate studies hall of the Department of Petroleum Engineering. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleh Al-Jawad

The presence of the phenomenon of discrepancyin bubble point pressure in more than one area of the Mishrif reservoir of Garraf oil field calls for study as it is a rare phenomenon in oil reservoirs. The study aimed to verify this phenomenon using seismic, petrophysical, and dynamic data.

The study produced a set of results, most notably that the reason for the discrepancy in bubble point pressure resulted from the presence of faults that acted as compartment led to a change in reservoir properties, most notably the bubble point.

The researcher recommended run advanced logssuch as (3D – VSP) to confirm the presence of faults in the Mishrif reservoir, as the above logis more accurate than seismic surveys. The study also recommended drilling several wells on both sides of the fault to study it through stratigraphic analysis and well testing.

After public discussion by committee members, listening to the researcher’s defense, and evaluating the dissertation, the researcher obtained a doctorate degree in petroleum engineering
