The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “The Effects of the Spread of Drug Abuse Among Youth in Society and Its Impact on University Students” on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The workshop, attended by department professors and second-year students, aimed to address the pressing issue of drug abuse and its consequences.
Two esteemed academic lecturers from the Chemical Engineering Department, Assistant Prof. Shaymaa Ahmed and Dr. Ghosoun Abd Mohammed, led the discussion. They covered various topics, including:
1. Definition of drug abuse according to the World Health Organization and the International Narcotics Control Board, highlighting the severe health, psychological, and social repercussions for individuals involved.
2. Guidance and educational insights regarding student interactions within the university setting, emphasizing the importance of attendance, appropriate conduct, and preparation for final examinations.
By shedding light on the detrimental effects of drug abuse and providing practical advice for university students, the workshop aimed to raise awareness and promote a healthy academic environment conducive to learning and personal development.
