“The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Baghdad – College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty Deanship, recently hosted a workshop titled ‘Meeting the Demands of the Job Market and Addressing Graduates’ Weaknesses.’ This insightful workshop was led by Assistant Lecturers Raafat Saleh Muhammad and Al-Harith Muthanna Bashir, and took place on Thursday, March 28, 2024, within the premises of the Computer Engineering department’s discussion room, with esteemed faculty members in attendance.
The workshop delved into various pertinent topics, including an overview of the contemporary job market landscape, the functioning of institutions, the significance of institutional culture, and an assessment of the challenges faced by current graduates. Additionally, practical strategies were presented for enhancing graduates’ technical and personal skills, addressing language proficiency issues, and advocating for continuous alignment of educational curricula with market demands.
The primary objective of the workshop was to pinpoint and address weaknesses among graduates, offering effective solutions while emphasizing the importance of cultivating both technical expertise and personal qualities in professional endeavors. Furthermore, the workshop underscored the imperative of staying attuned to the evolving needs of the job market.
As a culmination, the workshop produced a set of actionable recommendations, including the establishment of comprehensive support mechanisms for graduates post-graduation, formation of collaborative committees with private sector entities to facilitate summer training opportunities for pre-final stage students, and integration of industry insights into educational content and laboratory exercises to better prepare students for real-world challenges prior to graduation.”
