Prof. Dr. Zainab Ziad Ismail and the PhD student Ahmed Mustafa Sadeq have registrated their invention as a provisional US patent issued by USPTO with filing application number (63471958) and entitled:
Innovative application of self-adhesive wallpaper waste material as a novel separator to replace expensive membrane in a photosynthesis microbial desalination cell
the subject of the patent represents part of the doctoral research project for the PhD student Ahmed Mustafa Sadiq, supervised by Prof. Dr. Zainab Ziad Ismail at the Department of Environmental Engineering. This invention relates to the field of environmental bio-electrochemical techniques, in particular the modification and improvement of the photosynthesis microbial desalination cell. The invention includes an innovative use of polyethylene foam self-adhesive wallboard (PEFSW) waste material of no economic value as a new active membrane to replace the high-cost cation and anion exchange membranes in a photosynthesis microbial desalination cell used for simultaneous wastewater treatment, desalination of seawater associated with renewable bioenergy recovery in a single system.
