According to the study program in the Department of Water Resources Engineering for developing the scientific knowledge with practical knowledge and interest with scientific trips and visits for the department’s students to projects related to the curriculum for undergraduate study.
The Hindu Barrage project was visited by the fourth-year students, accompanied by a number of the department faculty, on Thursday, (30-11-2023). This visit included the new barrage facilities, which is located in Babil Governorate. The Hindiyah Barrage is considered one of the important projects that have a relationship to water resources engineering, as it is linked to hydraulic projects and within the scientific curricula in the undergraduate study of the Water Resources Engineering Department.
The department faculty were received by the director and officials of (Al-Hindiyya Barrage), led by (Senior Chief Engineer Muhammad Habib Mita’ab), director of the project, and Dr. (Ahmed Abdel Hadi). Dr. Ahmed Abdul Hadi gave a comprehensive explanation during a field tour accompanied by students. The trip included the new Hindiyah Barrage facilities and included a historical overview of important hydraulic structures, as well as a comprehensive explanation of the irrigation distribution of this project.
This project represents the main control center for water distributions of the Euphrates River in the governorates of the Middle Euphrates and the southern region, as this project enables the governorates of six of these regions to benefit from the water of this project, the governorates of (Babel, Diwaniyah, Karbala, Najaf, Dhi Qar, and Muthanna). The department’s students had the scientific discussions with Dr. Ahmed Abdul Hadi about the mechanism of work of this project and quantities of discharges for each of the governorates of the Middle Euphrates and feeding them according to the need for water according to the available water coming into this project.
At the end of this visit, the project director and officials confirmed their welcome for this visit and every future visit. The department’s faculty extended their thanks and gratitude to the project directors for their warm reception and good cooperation.
