A transformative academic partnership has emerged, enhancing education in Iraq through inter-institutional cooperation and innovation
On 28 September 2023, a significant academic partnership was established, enhancing education in Iraq through inter-institutional cooperation.
The agreement signed between the Deans of the College of Engineering at Baghdad University and the College of Petroleum Engineering at Al-Ain University heralds a new era in academia. Its primary objective is to facilitate closer scientific and academic partnerships with private universities and colleges. The signing occurred during Professor Dr. Jasim Mohammed Salman’s official visit as President of Al-Ain University to the College of Petroleum Engineering. Professor Dr Ghassan Hameed, the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, signed the collaboration agreement with Professor Dr Diaa Jasim, the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, in attendance.
The agreement provides a detailed framework for cooperation, encompassing the development of curricula, standardisation of course content, and the mutual accreditation of bespoke scientific programmes. Moreover, the programme facilitates cooperative delivery of theoretical lectures in specialized subjects beyond the first year of study, promoting a seamless learning experience for students.
The collaboration also encompasses practical aspects, providing opportunities for shared use of laboratories and workshops at both institutions. Resultantly, this sharing of resources is expected to enrich students’ practical learning experiences and ignite innovation.
Furthermore, the agreement promotes objective scientific research, joint publication and active participation in knowledge-sharing events, including conferences, seminars, and workshops. Collaborative cultural and sporting events will also be organized. It aims to establish specialised collaborative research projects to enhance knowledge-sharing.
Technical term abbreviations will be explained upon first use. To ensure international acknowledgment, publications will be made in reputed international journals. This approach strives to stimulate creativity and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
Emphasis is placed on ongoing communication and cooperation to cultivate every facet of academia, aligning with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s policy to strengthen ties between government and private universities.
This partnership represents a significant step forward, bringing forth a new era of heightened research and academia in Iraq.
