Prof. Dr. Abdullah Dhayea Assi, a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering / University of Baghdad, obtained a patent letter issued by the Ministry of Planning / Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control on 4/9/2023 entitled: (Development of an electric elevator based on tanks and weights).
Patent summary:
In a short period, elevators have become an essential machine, and elevators will become a more widespread element in society, they are truly the most important mechanisms in the modern era. In this application, a new idea was proposed for the electric elevator by dispensing with the main electric motor by using compressors, compressed air tanks, and flexible plastic tubes. When the cabin wants to go up or down, the compressors work to pump or discharge air to or from the tanks, so the cabin becomes heavier or lighter than the weight of the counterweight load. The force of gravity causes the balance load to fall and the cabin to rise, or vice versa. It is also possible to dispense with the tank in forming the balance load and the air compressor, and instead replace them with a weight of (5 to 10%) of the weight of the cab.
