[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad witnessed the public defense of the Master’s thesis of Fatima Amer Khader, a student in the Department of Energy Engineering, entitled: “Using Agricultural and Wood Waste with Gasification Technology to Power an Internal Combustion Engine.” The defense took place at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in the Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Munther hall , under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Zeina Ali Abdul-Ridha. The thesis addressed the study of converting agricultural and wood waste into syngas using thermal gasification technology and powering a 10 kW internal combustion engine using the gas produced from this process.<\/p>\n

During the research, the system’s performance was tested practically at the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the resulting gas emissions measured and compared to those of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and biogas.<\/p>\n

The results showed a higher percentage of carbon monoxide in the syngas compared to other fuel types, along with a lower percentage of carbon dioxide. Furthermore, the engine was able to operate at acceptable efficiency.<\/p>\n

: The researcher recommended the following<\/p>\n

Conducting studies on different types of waste with varying mixing ratios-1<\/p>\n

Reducing impurities and tar produced during gasification processes.-2<\/p>\n

Designing gasification systems with higher capacities, up to 100 kW.-3<\/p>\n
