The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held the public defense of master\u2019s student Safa Ghani Mohammed from the Department of Electrical Engineering for her thesis entitled:
\n\u201cEnhancing High Data Transmission Rate of Radio-over-Fiber System Based on Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM).\u201d<\/strong>
\nThe defense took place on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, in the Postgraduate Hall of the Department of Electrical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Ismail Shanan Desher.<\/p>\n

The thesis aimed to increase the number of input channels carrying radio signals to improve spectral density, as well as extend the transmission distances of radio signals after being modulated onto a high-frequency optical carrier within the third transmission window of the conventional band through single-mode fiber, thereby achieving broader and more secure coverage.<\/p>\n

It also included an in-depth study of the constraints of high-data-rate transmission in WDM-based Radio-over-Fiber systems using single-mode fiber, designing and developing methods suitable for loading and modulation techniques, adjusting channel spacing, fiber lengths, compensators, and amplifiers to minimize losses, and exploring integration possibilities with current solutions and future technological advancements.<\/p>\n

The thesis concluded with several recommendations, including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Improve the utilization of bandwidth and spectral efficiency.<\/li>\n
  2. Employ single-mode optical fiber as the transmission channel due to its relative transparency and security against signal attenuation.<\/li>\n
  3. Ensure easy integration with future wireless networks.<\/li>\n
  4. Support real-time applications with low latency and high reliability.<\/li>\n
  5. Develop future-proof architectures offering flexibility and scalability to accommodate network growth in the coming years.<\/li>\n
  6. Adopt network solutions that are cost- and energy-efficient.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Following the scientific discussion by the examining committee, and after hearing the candidate\u2019s defense and evaluating the thesis, the committee resolved to award the candidate the Master\u2019s degree in Electrical Engineering with distinction.<\/p>\n
