The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held the public defense of the Master\u2019s student Hassan Mohammed Marzeh<\/strong> from the Department of Energy Engineering for his thesis entitled: \u201cThe Impact of V-Shaped Porous Fins on the Thermo-Hydraulic Performance of the Photovoltaic Panel\u201d<\/em> on 02\/09\/2025<\/strong> at the Discussion Hall of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ammar Ali Farhan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The thesis aimed to enhance the thermal performance of photovoltaic solar panels using V-shaped porous fins. It included several variables such as the number and design of the fins and the cooling method. Experiments were conducted using both passive and active cooling methods at five different air velocities.<\/p>\n

The study concluded with a set of recommendations, including:<\/p>\n

  1. \n

    Improving the engineering design of porous fins:<\/strong>
    Future research should investigate the impact of geometric variables of V-shaped porous fins, such as bending angle, fin thickness, and pore density (PPI), to achieve the optimal balance between enhancing heat transfer efficiency and minimizing airflow resistance losses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Developing hybrid cooling systems:<\/strong>
    Results showed that combining passive cooling with porous fins and active cooling using an air channel and fan leads to a noticeable improvement in the electro-thermal performance of solar panels. Accordingly, the study recommends adopting hybrid cooling systems in environments with high solar radiation levels to enhance performance efficiency and stability.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Conducting long-term sustainability tests:<\/strong>
    The study recommends implementing long-term field tests to evaluate the durability and reliability of copper porous fins under different environmental conditions, including dust accumulation, humidity levels, and corrosion, to ensure their effectiveness and continuity before large-scale adoption in practical solar energy systems.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After the scientific discussion by the committee members, reviewing the defense, and evaluating the thesis, the student was awarded a Master\u2019s degree in Energy Engineering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
