{"id":8564,"date":"2025-09-01T10:57:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T07:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=8564"},"modified":"2025-09-01T10:57:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T07:57:39","slug":"college-of-engineering-university-of-baghdad-discusses-a-masters-thesis-in-the-department-of-petroleum-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=8564","title":{"rendered":"College of Engineering \u2013 University of Baghdad Discusses a Master\u2019s Thesis in the Department of Petroleum Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, August 18, 2025, the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held the public defense of the Master\u2019s thesis submitted by the student Mohammed Al-Mujahed Farouq Abdullah in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, entitled:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelecting the Optimal Drilling Path in Directional Wells Based on Geomechanical Properties in the Badra Oil Field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The defense took place in the department\u2019s discussion hall, with the examining committee composed of the following esteemed professors:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Jawad \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ Petroleum Engineering \u2013 Chairman<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Faleh Hassan Mohammed \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ Petroleum Engineering \u2013 Member<\/li>\n<li>Prof. Dr. Dhifaf Jaafar Sadiq \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ Petroleum Engineering \u2013 Member<\/li>\n<li>Prof. Dr. Nagham Jasim Fayyadh \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ Petroleum Engineering \u2013 Member &amp; Supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Study Objective:<\/p>\n<p>The study aimed to build a geomechanical model to analyze the effect of geomechanical properties on wellbore stability when changing the drilling deviation angle. Several proposals for directional drilling were presented, including adjusting drilling mud density values within specific ranges to ensure stability.<\/p>\n<p>Study Results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first proposal, drilling 1,000 meters in the Mudud B formation (which represents 40% of the total reservoir) at a 90\u00b0 angle, showed that the minimum shear failure rate required a mud density of 15 ppg at a depth of 4,600 meters.<\/li>\n<li>The second proposal, drilling at a 45\u00b0 angle from the Mudud A to G formations, demonstrated higher stability with a drilling mud density of 13 ppg.<\/li>\n<li>The third proposal\u2014which was favored according to the study\u2014involved drilling 600 meters with better stability at a 90\u00b0 angle using a mud weight of 14 ppg, followed by drilling the deviated section at a 45\u00b0 angle.
