The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held the public defense of master’s student Mohammed Jassim Talib<\/strong> from the Department of Energy Engineering on Tuesday, May 20, 2025<\/strong>, for his thesis entitled:
\n\u201cEnhancing the Efficiency of Integrated Solar Water Heating and Distillation Systems.\u201d<\/em>
\nThe research was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Zina Ali Abdul Redha<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The thesis aimed to improve the performance of solar-powered water heating and distillation systems by studying two types of distillation devices\u2014one equipped with a wick and one without\u2014and analyzing the key design and operational factors affecting their efficiency.<\/p>\n

The study included both theoretical and experimental analysis of two solar distillation systems integrated with evacuated tube solar collectors, tested in Diyala Province. Both systems were installed at a tilt angle of 33.61 degrees facing south. Experiments were conducted during the months of July, August, and September 2024, measuring the impact of solar radiation and ambient temperature on system efficiency and productivity.<\/p>\n

The thesis concluded with several key recommendations, including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Using synthetic sponge wicks or metallic meshes made of aluminum or copper.<\/li>\n
  2. Applying nanotechnology-based coatings to the inner surfaces of the distillation device.<\/li>\n
  3. Improving the water feed system by ensuring uniform pressure distribution.<\/li>\n
  4. Enhancing smart monitoring and control through sensors for temperature and humidity measurement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
