Her dissertation, titled <strong data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"469\">\u201cHealthy Design of Urban Space,\u201d<\/strong> was supervised by <strong data-start=\"488\" data-end=\"531\">Prof. Dr. Inaam Mohammed Amin Al-Bazzaz<\/strong>, and the defense took place in Dr. Mohammed Makiya Hall.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"962\">The dissertation addresses a pressing contemporary issue \u2014 the <strong data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"714\">neglect of health-supportive values in urban environments<\/strong>, a concern that has grown significantly in recent decades and particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This shift has brought forward the \u201c<strong data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"884\">Salutogenesis<\/strong>\u201d approach, which emphasizes factors that promote human health and well-being.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1202\">The research focused on <strong data-start=\"988\" data-end=\"1017\">Psychological Restoration<\/strong>, a concept from <strong data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1062\">Environmental Psychology<\/strong>, which describes the ability of individuals to recover from <strong data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1141\">mental fatigue<\/strong> and regain voluntary attention needed for daily functioning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1253\">The research problem was defined on two levels:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1578\">\n<li data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1381\">\n<p data-start=\"1256\" data-end=\"1381\"><strong data-start=\"1256\" data-end=\"1275\">General Problem<\/strong>: How to activate the concept of psychological restoration in the design of urban spaces and landscapes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1382\" data-end=\"1578\">\n<p data-start=\"1384\" data-end=\"1578\"><strong data-start=\"1384\" data-end=\"1404\">Specific Problem<\/strong>: The absence of a comprehensive theoretical framework defining and integrating the dimensions of psychological restoration, and clarifying its <strong data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1577\">perceived sensory aspects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1936\">The study aimed to develop a <strong data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1630\">theoretical model<\/strong> establishing the essential foundations and perceived sensory dimensions of psychological restoration in urban environments. The main hypothesis proposed that <strong data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1894\">the restorative experience is achieved through a \u201csense of coherence\u201d and environmental connectedness<\/strong> within a health-supportive urban context.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1938\" data-end=\"1980\">The dissertation included five chapters:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2711\">\n<li data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2084\">\n<p data-start=\"1983\" data-end=\"2084\"><strong data-start=\"1983\" data-end=\"1996\">Chapter 1<\/strong>: Provided the foundational knowledge on healthy design and psychological restoration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2253\">\n<p data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2253\"><strong data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2100\">Chapter 2<\/strong>: Established the theoretical basis for integrating <strong data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2167\">walkability<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2193\">connected centers<\/strong> in enhancing perceived sensory dimensions of restoration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2254\" data-end=\"2466\">\n<p data-start=\"2256\" data-end=\"2466\"><strong data-start=\"2256\" data-end=\"2269\">Chapter 3<\/strong>: Developed a comprehensive framework based on <strong data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2354\">Perceived Sensory Dimensions (PSD)<\/strong>, proposing a model where restoration is driven by a sense of coherence and perceived environmental wholeness.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2467\" data-end=\"2640\">\n<p data-start=\"2469\" data-end=\"2640\"><strong data-start=\"2469\" data-end=\"2482\">Chapter 4<\/strong>: Outlined the research methodology, employing tools such as <strong data-start=\"2543\" data-end=\"2567\">Likert-scale surveys<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2585\">Space Syntax<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2587\" data-end=\"2601\">Walk Score<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2607\" data-end=\"2614\">GIS<\/strong> to test the hypothesis.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2641\" data-end=\"2711\">\n<p data-start=\"2643\" data-end=\"2711\"><strong data-start=\"2643\" data-end=\"2656\">Chapter 5<\/strong>: Presented the key findings and final recommendations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2713\" data-end=\"2730\">Key Findings:<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2731\" data-end=\"3072\">The results from both theoretical and practical components provided a clear <strong data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2860\">mechanism for achieving psychological restoration<\/strong> in urban spaces. This was realized through <strong data-start=\"2904\" data-end=\"2935\">coherence and connectedness<\/strong> in nature-integrated environments, facilitated by <strong data-start=\"2986\" data-end=\"3011\">positive urban spaces<\/strong> offering refuge, fascination, compatibility, and continuity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3074\" data-end=\"3321\">The research supports the concept of <strong data-start=\"3111\" data-end=\"3136\">Evidence-Based Design<\/strong>, enabling architects to identify and apply design patterns that enhance perceived sensory quality and promote restorative experiences, making urban environments a <strong data-start=\"3300\" data-end=\"3320\">source of health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3323\" data-end=\"3353\">Defense Committee Members:<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"3354\" data-end=\"3832\">\n<li data-start=\"3354\" data-end=\"3423\">\n<p data-start=\"3356\" data-end=\"3423\"><strong data-start=\"3356\" data-end=\"3389\">Prof. Dr. Ghada Mousa Razouqi<\/strong> \/ University of Baghdad \/ Chair<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3502\">\n<p data-start=\"3426\" data-end=\"3502\"><strong data-start=\"3426\" data-end=\"3467\">Prof. Dr. Mohammed Qasim Abdulghafour<\/strong> \/ Al-Nahrain University \/ Member<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3503\" data-end=\"3591\">\n<p data-start=\"3505\" data-end=\"3591\"><strong data-start=\"3505\" data-end=\"3556\">Asst.
